(Greensboro, NC) — The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce announces the hire of a new Program Director for Leadership Greensboro. Niketa Greene comes to Greensboro from the Independent Adoption Center in Raleigh as the North Carolina Branch Director. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University. Greene’s focus will be on developing our next community leaders and engaging the existing Leadership Greensboro Alumni network in order to grow the program and have a greater impact in the community.
Each year 40-45 participants are selected for Leadership Greensboro, a nine-month long, immersive leadership program presented in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership. The program prepares and nurtures citizens to assume leadership roles throughout the community and develop skills that will help their organizations succeed. Besides educating participants about the local community, the program provides hands-on experiences that teach participants how to work together to make our community a better place to live.
Diversity in industry, profession, race, gender, age, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation are factors considered in the class selection. Individuals who have a proven record of ongoing commitment to community service are encouraged to apply. Applications for the Class of 2018 are due June 30, 2017.

(Greensboro, NC) — The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Action Greensboro, and Launch Greensboro are thrilled to begin the summer with exciting news about university talent retention.
Opportunity Greensboro Fellows Kick-Off
The 2017 Fellows kicked off their summer last night at a reception at HQ Greensboro. On Thursday and Friday, June 1-2, the students will participate in world-class leadership training during a two-day Leonard Kaplan Leadership Institute at the Center for Creative Leadership. Along with leadership training, during the 10-week summer program students gain will industry experience through paid internships, network with key business leaders and community members and be paired with business leader mentors. A total of 53 Fellows were selected from eight local colleges and universities: Bennett College, Elon School of Law, Elon, Greensboro College, Guilford Technical Community College, Guilford College, North Carolina A&T State University, and University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Launch Greensboro Interns Secure Full-Time Employment
Three of the ten 2016-2017 LaunchLab Interns have secured full-time employment at local companies as a direct result of their internship. Natalie King (UNCG) was hired by Southern Trade Publications; Infeanyi Obi (Elon University) was hired by Summit Advisory; and Jacob Froats (High Point University) received full-time employment from Ampogee (formerly Catalant). Ampogee is also a graduate of the LaunchLab (formerly Triad Startup Lab) program.
Over the next eight weeks, five Morehead-Cain Fellows from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill will be in Greensboro as part of The Civic Collaboration Summer Experience, an opportunity for a small group of scholars to do a “deep dive” into a city, getting to know its identity and spirit while grappling with its real challenges and enjoying its strengths. In Greensboro, they will be focused on our talent retention pipeline, compiling data and research around the following questions: how might Greensboro better align the programs within the pipeline, what national best practices can Greensboro Learn From, and how can the city benchmark their progress and success.

Greensboro, N.C. – Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, plans to expand its presence in Greensboro and Guilford County with the opening of a new 135,300 square foot facility at McConnell Center in Greensboro. Coke Consolidated will add 15-20 new jobs with an investment of at least $4 million. The company currently employs 230 people at 8200 Capital Drive in Greensboro.
City of Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said, “Coke Consolidated began operations in Greensboro as far back as 1902. With this announcement, the company is further strengthening its position in Greensboro and Guilford County. We appreciate their continued investment in the region.”

April 3, 2017 | Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Announces Full Itinerary for Intercity Visit to Columbus, Ohio
(Greensboro, NC) – The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce will be traveling to Columbus, Ohio on May 10-11 as part of its biannual Intercity Visit. The purpose of these visits is to engage in collective community visioning and learn best practices and lessons learned from other successful communities. Previous trips included Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2015 and Birmingham, Alabama in 2013.
In May, community and business leaders from around Guilford County will focus on five topics: alleviating poverty, city branding, entrepreneurship, talent and skills development, and university engagement.

Marysville Auto Plant & the Honda Heritage Center

February 28, 2017 | Pratt Display Continues Growth in Contract Packing, Opening North Carolina Facility
(Greensboro, NC) — Pratt Industries’ Display division continues its rapid expansion with the opening of a 360,000 square foot facility at Rock Creek Center, in Whitsett, NC in March. Pratt, which employs 6,000 people in manufacturing jobs, is America’s 5th largest corrugated producer.

The facility will house a full-service, stand-alone fulfillment operation, providing primary packaging; POP display packing; sophisticated pick-and-pack; and national distribution for consumer products clients.
